Ananda Das, a celebrated Indian painter of international acclaim, was born in Kolkata, the City of Joy. His initial artistic guidance came from his father, Lakshmi Narayan Das, a distinguished commercial artist. At the age of fourteen, Ananda enrolled in the Bengal School of Arts. However, by eighteen, he recognized the limitations of formal academic training and chose to forge his own path, leading to the development of his distinctive and highly successful style. This unique approach garnered him numerous honors, including multiple Gold Medals of Honour.
His versatility across various art forms and styles earned him several prestigious scholarships, solidifying his position as a prominent member of the Calcutta Painters Group. Since beginning his career in 1994, Ananda Das has continued to create, working with diverse mediums such as watercolor, acrylic, oil, charcoal, and mixed media. His paintings primarily focus on realistic and figurative themes, with his notable series including the "Rickshaw Puller" and "Varanasi" collections.
