Yuvan Bothysathuvar is an acclaimed Indian contemporary artist celebrated for his spellbinding mixed-media collages and geometric abstraction. Beginning his creative journey in Tiruvannamalai and Chennai by painting realistic cinema hoardings and theater banners, Bothysathuvar mastered draftsmanship before shifting from representation to conceptual interpretation. Rather than mimicking reality, his mature work constructs an optical wonderland—using intricate layers, saturated palettes, and rhythmic textures to explore sensory memories, natural geometry, and the delicate balance between deception and truth.
Working primarily in papier collé mounted on wood, Bothysathuvar transforms newsprint, colored papers, printed text, and found imagery into dynamic, multi-layered visual compositions. By meticulously slicing, arranging, and fusing paper of varying tones and lusters, he creates hypnotic patterns of strips, whorls, and waves that vibrate with energy. A former researcher at Chennai’s Lalit Kala Akademi, Bothysathuvar was named ‘Emerging Artist of the Year’ during the Glenfiddich Artist in Residence programme in Scotland (2013) and received the CIMA Merit Award in Kolkata (2015). His compelling paper collages remain prized acquisitions for discerning collectors seeking narrative depth and optical innovation.
